I have to say the food is no better than Acapulco's. I was extremely disappointed with the portions and the quality.
My wife had the taquitos. They were ok, but on TV they looked awesome because they put all kinds of cheese, guac, & sour cream on top. She got a small scoop and very little cheese.
I got the fajitas and the meet was horrible. No flavor whatsoever. The chile was good. If it wasn't for the chile, it would have not had any flavor.
If you're in SD and close to it, go give it a try. Otherwise don't waste your time or money going down to SD specifically for El Indio. Be aware, it is a tourist trap.
As we were leaving, I told my wife we should have eaten at the British Pub across the street instead. She agreed.

There is a Gilberto El Indio (don't know if it is related) in Santa Monica that is really good. Also has good Margaritas too. Cash only, I think it is on Pico close to 14th.

The taco truck is kick ass. I went there and fell in love with it. cheap and good the way I like it!!!!
El Tacos Loco #5 in Harbor City is okay, I will have to try los muchachos. Is that Fletcher's place???
Love both those!! afro -- have you tried fidels? The one in carlsbad is good, but the one in solana beach is better.
Fidels in Carlsbad is now called Norte, not sure what's up with that. I used to work @ the Inn there so I went there all the time. Waaay to expensive for what it is.
El Indio on Balboa and Roscoe thats 24 Hours, Pretty decent, really greasy though...
Then their is an El Indio on Tampa and Roscoe thats not 24 Hours but the food is a tad better...
Now that i think of it... We live in the Burrito capital in the world...
