Ok since moving out here last year I've tried quite a few places and they were good but all the sushi chefs looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked for soy paper instead of seaweed. I never thought I would find somethind I liked as much or better then Sushi Spot in Tarzana.
Well tonight my daughter and I did. Prices were reasonable compared to other places and the food outstanding. They had Soy paper. I was so happy. They had toro on the menu.
It's called Aoki Restaurant in downtown La Verne. Its on the corner of D and 3rd. Closed on Sundays.
Anyone that lives out this way should give it a try.
Sweet! Now if I could only figure out where the hell La Verne is.
Here's the address and you can goggle it. It's right next to UNLV. The upper class section of the 909 for me, ya know I came from Woodland Hills. I have J.A.P. written all over me!:nanana:
2307 D St
La Verne CA 91750 909 493-2239
As a side note. my daughters high school, Bonita was just named again by Newsweek as 1 of the top 1200 schools in the nation, coming in in the top 3 %! She told me she never wanted me to move her here and now she never wants to leave or go back to the valley. She's a different person here.
Let me know if you ever try the place. I love your write ups.
I have been to many sushi places and both of the above mentioned. There were ok, Aoki being much better then Miyabi. but if you want really fresh and just damn good sushi go here: http://losangeles.citysearch.com/pro.../hayakawa.html
Hayakawa
750 Terrado Plz Ste 33
Covina, CA
91723-3445
Phone: (626) 332-8288
Chef Hayakawa opened his own restaurant in 1996 after training @ Nobu's. He has gone on to win the Zagat award every year since.
Hayakawa is now our favorite sushi restaurant to go to. Ever since we found it April we have been back at least a dozen times, no joke. If you have not tried this place do so you will not be disappointed. Try the new style sashimi and the bay scallops sushi. Damn I am getting hungry..

I'm willing to try, but...do they offer soy paper too? That's my first test. I could care less about rice. My hand rolls are always riceless unless part of like a crunch roll or something. Otherwise, I stick to sashimi.

I am not sure if they have soy paper, I'll have to ask next time. There sashimi is the freshest I have had, i love it! I am not much of a rice eater also, I eat sashimi and stick to rolls with less rice.

Bonita HS is also the HS that a former teacher was caught in that NBC undercover sting about computer sexual predators. The worst thing was that scumbag was arrested over the weekend, came back to teach at Bonita until that following Friday before authorities informed the school of his arrest. What gall and what a ****ed up system that allows such a scumbag to be around kids.
WTF does that have to do with Sushi ?
I'll bet they even have registered sex offenders in LaVerne. WHATS THE POINT
WTF does Bonita HS have to do with sushi? Nothing. So since she posted about Bonita I wanted to mentioned what happened at Bonita. Sorry if it made you upset or damn man, just get a life. It's not that big of a deal.

Well I'm sure she wasn't a student there at the time but I was merely pointing out that she never wanted to come here and our favorite sushi place was in the Valley ( where someone was shot in front of our house at school) and now she never wants to leave. I digressed. Oh well. Fact of life, your not safe anywhere.
