If we are going to mention other locations, The best ice cream I've EVER had was a scoop of coconut ice cream from Heladería Lares in Puerto Rico. God damn that was good!

There are Cold Stones pretty much everywhere now, 1400 stores.
Been to Cold Stone numerous time....pretty good but somewhat pricey. Prices vary from location to location. One of the big draws about Cold Stone is they will handmake flavors that arent on the menu....for Instance if you want Pistachio and they dont have pistachio-they will take Cake Batter Ice Cream and add pistachios and green pistachio flavoring to make pistachio ice cream.
For the record, Stricklands is technically Frozen Custard.

Since we are now talking best around the world I'll take some Vanilla Bean ice cream from that little stand at the top of Mt. Belvedere on Moorea, Tahiti.
**** makes your mouth water. mmmmmmmmmmm

The best ice cream I've ever had is from Glacier Ice Cream in Boulder, Colorado. Oh my god! It's soooo rich and creamy, the texture alone will blow your mind! The flavors are awesome too...I love their peanut butter and chocolate, death by chocolate and coconut chocolate melt.
They have a store in Manhattan Beach. Any south bay LGK'ers tried it out yet?
I'm not a big ice cream fan (except for the garlic stuff at a good garlic festival.....mmmmmm), but I would suggest Mashti Malone's.
They have their original location on La Brea Near Hollywood (or is it Sunset?) and a recent new addition right near my waterring hole in Glendale (don't know why it isn't listed on their site). Some of their specialties are rose water and orange water based flavors. I recently had they rose water saffron ice cream and it was absolutely amazing!!

I live next to Little Tokyo, though and I love me some green tea ice cream... there's a dirty place next to the crazy art lady with the Warhols that has some creamy delicious green tea ice cream... although I have neglected them since Beard Papa opened.
Hard to imagine that vanilla ice cream could make it onto this list, but it does. The ultra-rich vanilla ice cream on the dessert menu of Hiltl restaurant in downtown Zurich (Vegetarisch essen und trinken in Zürich - Gesunder Genuss seit 1898 - Haus Hiltl) is decadent enough, but when it's topped with Hiltl's own caramel or chocolate sauce, it's almost better than sex.
It is extremely difficult to find good ice cream in this country, I have no idea why. The fact that Cold Stone even enters the conversation is an indicator. Their ice cream is OK, but nothing more. They mix a bunch of crap in to distract you from the fact that the ice cream itself is not all that.
The best ice cream I've ever had was in Florence. I went to a shop which was supposed to be the second-best in all of Italy, and my God was that stuff incredible. They had both regular flavors and more off-beat stuff like whiskey which was awesome, and I don't even like whiskey.
Ice cream in Canada is also very, very good.
