About This Page: This is a discussion on Food and Beer Reviews within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Heading to maui for 6 days....anyone have any good tips for great food?
OK on the road to Hana when you cross the island and end up near Paia, there is a wind surfing beach where you can stand on the cliff and watch the guys do their thing. Well right near there is an awesome breakfast spot. I think it's called Charley's.
If you want something fancy, check out the wonderful open air restaraunt inside the Maui Hyatt Regency. It's been a few years since I've been there but the food was amazing. Also, their Drums of Polynesia luau is pretty cool too.
The Gazebo for breakfast. It is in Napili Bay. Great view, great food. Long line though.
Also Lalani's (sp*) in Leilanis on the beach in Lahaina is very nice.
Cool Cat Cafe is on the 2nd floor across from the Banyon Tree on Front Street. Great place for burgers for a nice lunch. and the MaiTai's aren't too bad either.
We normally don't go out to eat much while there, we stop at Costco by the airpost and stock up for meals.
Have a great trip.

Someone in the other hawaii thread mentioned Cheeseburger in Paradise, which is good, I like the chili cheese fries and shrimp cocktail there.
For somewhere nice with good seafood dishes--I liked Roy's in Kahana. Kimo's and the Lahaina Fish Co. in Lahaina was also good.
Chez Paul was good, but way over priced.
For brunch, we had some good crepes at the Cafe des Amis in Paia.
There's also a place on the waterfront next to the banyan tree (on its right side if you're looking at it from Front St.) I can't remember if it's just adjacent to the tree's location or if it's a couple of blocks down, but it has some good coconut macademia nut pancakes.
Otherwise, we stayed in a condo while there, so most of the time we made brunch with stuff we got at the Safeway down the street.

oh, also forgot to mention i've been here both times i've been to maui: smokehouse bbq
tasty ribs with two scoops rice. yummm...
edit: hip, i just read the cheese thread & saw you're interested in the viet connection. there's a place called a saigon cafe in wailuku. it's a real hole in the wall, doesn't even have a sign on it, but it's on 1792 main st. 808-243-9560. it was pretty good. but i think the food here in oc is better. it's got a different touch to it though so if you want to try it, i thought i'd include it.

A lot of the viet restaurants in HI are run by Thai's.
The Pho shops are better imho.
no worries, the one i listed is run by jennifer nguyen so it's authentic. the waiters speak our language, too. food's not bad really, it focuses more on lemongrass dishes (which, of all types of viet cuisine that i seek, is not amongst the highest on the list). and generally, i don't travel to eat vietnamese unless it's in vietnam. heh.
Longhi's is great, right across from Bubba Gumps if I remember correctly. The Gazebo is really good for breakfast, it's located in the Napili Shores Resort.
I really liked Kimo's in Lahaina. I had a really good seared Ahi dinner there and the restaurant sits right in downtown Lahaina overlooking the water.
The Hula Grill is a sister restaurant of Kimo's. We didn't actually eat in the restaurant but we ate at the "barefoot" bar which is their bar area. It's outdoors and the tables and chairs are on the sand. Good for people watching. If you go, I guarantee you won't be able to stop eating the bread because they have a killer vinegar based spicy dipping sauce. Yum.
Our favorite place to eat was the Plantation House in Kapalua on the golf Course. One of the most beautiful views on the island IMO.

i 2nd this suggestion! we ate here, too, but i couldn't remember what it was called, just that it was on the golf course in kapalua. it's really good food and good service.
Roy's is by far the best I have eaten anywhere in Maui or any other island. Longhies is good and Kimo's is great out on the deck at sundown, eating Ono....

...and near the end of the road to Hana, there is this dude in a trailer, with a handwritten sign, sellin fresh fruit smoothies. He's only got one blender hooked up to an extension chord, but he makes a damn fine smoothie. He might have more on the menu, if asked with a wink and a nod
