Alright, so since I've turned 21, I've tried about 50 some-odd new beers... many I've liked, quite a few I've disliked, and then a few that I can appreciate but don't yet have the taste for (Arrogant Bastard, Stone IPA, Jacobsen Saaz Blonde to name a few... beers that I've just been like "Damn, I'm just not ready for beer this good/intense yet")
I recently went to Las Vegas and stayed at the Luxor. The Luxor (like all other casinos) offers free drinks at the slots and in the sports book. Their free beer selection included the following
- Amstel Light
- Beck's
- Beck's Dark
- Bud
- Bud Light
- Coors
- Coors Light
- Corona
- Heineken
- Sam Adams (Boston and one other I believe)
- 1 or 2 others
The VAST majority of people drinking beer chose Budweiser.
I've gotten drunk on Bud plenty of times, don't get me wrong... and natty light, Coors, and MGD don't sell 30 packs for taste... these beers are simply there to get you drunk.
I can also understand (though personally can't) buying Bud or Coors because its cheaper than higher-end beers. Just to have beer in the fridge. Whatever.
But when you are GIVEN A CHOICE and all of those beers cost EXACTLY THE SAME ($1, $.50, whatever you tip, or free if you are a cheap bastard) how can you choose to drink that **** over the others?!?!!?
As light beers go, Amstel is 10 times better than Bud and Coors light. Who chooses Bud over Beck's/Sam/Heineken/Corona?!?!?
I was enraged the entire trip.

I'd choose Bud anyday, especially over hoighty-toighty flamer beers like Corona and Heini. Corona is not only low in alcohol, it also tastes like it's been brewed with one log of poo in every batch just to give it that nasty after taste that you can smell when you pop open a bottle. Bud rocks and it tastes a lot like Molson Canadian which also rocks.

Simple. Most Americans do not drink beer for the flavor. They drink the cheap and flavorless crap to get drunk. Of course, they're going to go for the Bud.
My fave beers are no longer available. Coors Brewing bought out Caffreys and their name. Since Dec of 2002 they have not produced it and it looks they will not do it...I say call and complain to them instead of making their cans turn blue when they get cold
My second fave is Saxer 3 Finger Roasted Red Heffedunkel. They used to sell this at Yardhouse and I would buy it for the name, cause it always made me laugh. Turns out it is a damn good beer. Not very heavy like some of the Stone beers can be
My cheap swill of choice is Blue Moon and Bud Light. Also the Sam Adams Summer Lager or whatever beer is pretty damn good too
Bud Light bottle is my social walk around with it to look like i'm drinking beer since I don't drink much anymore.
If I really want a beer to savor and enjoy i'll go with my favorite, Kirin Ichiban which is also smooth and if that isn't available i'll get a Bass Pale Ale.
I've never ordered a beer in LV while playing...I like to keep my wits about me when money is on the line. Bottled water only.
it's surprising how many people will choose bud over what some of us consider to be higher quality beers. a girlfriend of mine ALWAYS drinks bud. she tries other stuff but always goes back to bud. another time hubby & i were at a stop in the taiwan airport where they had kirin, sapparo, asahi, taiwan beer and bud as their choices all for the same price. i had a kirin, hubby had a taiwan beer and what did the vacationing couple behind us get? bud! i would think that if it's all the same price people might want to have something different in another land but i guess it's the same sort of people who will eat mcdonalds in another land also.

I enjoy all beer (sans Corona, which Byatch1979 your explanation nailed on the head), but as I get older and my thoughts about joining an elite class in life evaporate, I find myself drinking and enjoying the cheap stuff more and more. I used to sample beers, pair them appropriately with food and understand that drinking out of the bottle was savage. Now I am very comfortable coming hime, loosening my tie and twisting off the cap (twisting, of the horror!) to a cold, refreshing Miller Lite.
I tried to run from it and for a while I succeeded, but my blue collar roots and sensibilities won out in the end. Now if your beer doesn't have a TV commercial or a 30 pack option, you can count me out.

Interesting that everyone hates Corona so much. I don't mind it at all. Definitely not my beer of choice, but I have no trouble at all sipping on one on a hot day. Not very beer snobby I know, but to each their own of course.
Newcastle to those of you that mentioned it is a great beer, love it. I'm partial to the Japanese beers (Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo all hit the spot for me)... Pyramid Hefe Weizen is a nice change of pace too.
Best cheapish beer by far to me is Michelob Amber Bock. Dark, great taste, very smooth.
