About This Page: This is a discussion on Food and Beer Reviews within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. I like this one.
My favorite beer ever (as of now and until I have something that tops it) is the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. It's a barleywine style ale. Might be a bit much for those that haven't yet experimented much with the heavier ale styles. I've got a buddy that loves Stone's Double Bastard Ale......... but he couldn't handle the bigfoot though. So, to each his/her own.
Their pale ale rules, the wheat is pretty damn tasty too, and the Harvest ale is killer. A lot of their releases are seasonal, but you can easily have access to the Pale Ale year round.
They do have a Stout and Porter available year round too, which get excellent reviews from beeradvocate.com. I'm not a huge Stout or Porter guy, though. The wheat is currently available, as is their IPA. I admire both of them greatly.
You need to make the trek up to Chico and visit the brewery. They have so many beers on tap, there is no way to walk out of there sober. Many beers not bottled too BTW.

I may be mistaken and if I am I apologize in advance but were you the winner at a poker game in Huntington Beach a few years back? If so, weren't you drinking wine coolers?
that was Robzilla, not VK
and those were wine coolers he was drinking

Beer out of a plastic bottle tastes like.. well, plastic. I try avoiding it at all costs but sometimes (usually at events, concerts, ballgames, etc) it is the only option. The aluminum bottle isn't much better. Trade in the plastic aftertaste for aluminum and freeze your hand while drinking it.

I didn't even know they had plastic bottles. But yea, I definitely would try to stick with tap, and if not that then glass bottles. Can't stand anything else unless I'm already wasted.

Glass bottles are almost just as good as draft (if the brew is poured into it's complimentary glassware).

I do. I have a kick ass bar that I got from Crate & Barrel to store all of my proper beer glassware. I do pour my IPAs into certain glasses, as I do with my Belgians, Barleywines, Common/Steams, Wheat Ales, Weizens, and the other styles out there.
There is still an assload of room inside for wine bottles, accessories, and whatnot. I should take a picture of it sometime. I don't drink wine, but I'm gonna stock up on a few bottles of good stuff for guests that might partake. Any suggestions? I know zero regarding wine, other than I am not fond of the taste
Wow. I have obviously been away much longer than I thought. Az, I am most impressed!
I don't want to hijack the beer thread, but if you are looking for a couple of wines to have on hand, I would suggest a couple of Chardonnays (most girls will drink this -- if one asks for white Zinfandel, it is akin to asking for Corona Lite. Please do not stock this in your house under any circumstance,) and a couple of mid-range, good quality reds like Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir. There are hundreds of choices, but a few good labels for Chardonnay and Pinot are La Crema and Sanford. For Cabernet, try Kenwood. Or ask at BevMo. Cheers!

Had the luxury of stopping in the Westwood Brewing Company restaurant for lunch today. They have something like 40 beers on tap and really good food as well. Nice glass of Boddington's Pub Ale was a very fair $2.58. Next time your in Westwood, I recommend it!
First of all, if you have to shove a lime wedge and salt into a beer to drink it...shouldn't that tell you something? I'm not talking about an orange or lemon wedge sitting on the rim of your glass, I'm talking about shoving a lime into a bottle and turning the bottle upside down so that the lime could successfully drown out the beer's taste. Seriously...
Second I kind of consider myself a beer snob of sorts. I don't give a flying **** about the alcohol % in a beer, because in the end if I wanna get drunk...I'm going to drink enough to get there no matter what the % is.
Third, when I walk into a bar, restaurant, liquor store, etc the FIRST thing I do is look for a beer that I haven't tried yet. Many times I'm sorry that I ordered it, but I would prefer to taste a new beer if I have the choice.
If the mission is to get drunk, I like to start off with good beer, then I can let the quality slip after awhile. Once you get to a certain point, the taste is rather moot. Having said that, BUD/Bud Light...I just don't do unless there is NOTHING else. It has an offensive aftertaste to me. Same with Corona.
Rolling Rock is my fave when it comes to the massed produced domestics. It's not as massed produced as Bud, Miller, Coors, but it's just a great smooth beer. Guinness is always a great choice as well. I prefer the draught (tall can, black bottle) over the stout (brown bottle with beige label) though. It's smoother to me.
The double chocolate...great beer. The Yardhouse has a couple of them and they are freaking great. Amstel light is my favorite light beer I think. Great after a good game of ice hockey in Pasadena. Newcastle is extremely smooth and a gateway beer of sorts to the stronger tasting Belgum beers.
Honestly, I don't drink a beer because I think I look cool drinking a certain label. That is asinine. It's about what the damn thing tastes like...bottom line. If I was worried about looking cool because of what beer I was holding I'd have bigger problems than the beer.
In closing, I have to admit what really bothers me about most Bud drinkers that I know is that they will NOT have any other beer around for anyone else (except maybe Corona...go figure). I'm not saying that you need to have 1,000,000 different beers all the time, but there are MANY people that hate that beer. So, I do what any red blooded American should do and take some beer to the person's house that to me is at least a little better tasting, and not so different that maybe the Bud drinkers would try it. Rolling Rock, Amstel Light, something like that. Maybe some Newcastle. Sometimes it goes ok, sometimes those bottles don't get touched. Oh well.
Corona=Mexican soda pop. Love their commercials but thats about it.
Michelob Amber Bock looks like it should be a rich, full bodied beer but is fairly tastless.
Sam Adams has cornered the market on the best beer for the money, along with Sierra Nevada.
I usually drink Heineken in casinos just because its a known quantity and has a clean hop finish.
Try Firestone Double Barrel if you get a chance....simply outstanding.
Yeah, Corona and Amber Bock are both pretty lousy. I refuse to drink Corona (even if it's a free one) and Amber Bock just has nothing going for it. Sam Adams rules, and Sierra Nevada is easily one of my favorite (if not favorite) breweries. Heineken is alright, but half of the time they are so damn skunky.
And yes, the Firestone Double Barrel is simply outstanding ! Their Pale Ale is pretty good too, and I was surprised at how good the Firestone lager was.
