Thats too bad about the Amber Ale. I've only tried one product of theirs; the Yellowtail Pale Ale; which is one of my absolute favorites.
My favorite beer ever (as of now and until I have something that tops it) is the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. It's a barleywine style ale. Might be a bit much for those that haven't yet experimented much with the heavier ale styles. I've got a buddy that loves Stone's Double Bastard Ale......... but he couldn't handle the bigfoot though. So, to each his/her own.
Their pale ale rules, the wheat is pretty damn tasty too, and the Harvest ale is killer. A lot of their releases are seasonal, but you can easily have access to the Pale Ale year round.
They do have a Stout and Porter available year round too, which get excellent reviews from beeradvocate.com. I'm not a huge Stout or Porter guy, though. The wheat is currently available, as is their IPA. I admire both of them greatly.

When they release it again, try Stone's Old Guardian. It's a great Barley wine. Another good Barley wine is Green Flash's Gnarly Wine.
I have a 22 oz of the Old Guardian in my fridge right now
Green Flash has a ton of brews at Bevmo and Liqourama, and I have been meaning to pick some of them up. I'll definately give their barleywine a shot. I also want to sample Anchor's Old Foghorn barleywine.
I've never understood why people show so much hatred and criticism towards those that choose to drink alone. Personally I cannot stand drunken douchebags and loud *******s at bars. I enjoy the peace and quiet in the privacy of my own home.
There's nothing wrong with drinking alone as long as you are continually updating someone how drunk you are getting
Interesting that everyone hates Corona so much. I don't mind it at all. Definitely not my beer of choice, but I have no trouble at all sipping on one on a hot day. Not very beer snobby I know, but to each their own of course.
Count me in as one that cannot stomach the horrendous Corona. On a hot day, I'd go with a Sierra Nevada Summerfest, or perhaps an Anchor Steam. Hefeweizens work too, as do numerous wheat ales. They hit the spot on a hot afternoon, and there are plenty out there that will quench your thirst and satisfy your taste without having to succumb into the mass marketed domestics and/or imports. In Laughlin last month, I had a 6pk of Sierra Nevada Wheat to accompany me while on the boat in the 115 degree weather. The day before on the boat I had a 6pk of Sierra Nevada Summerfest.
Different situations/settings call for different brews, indeed. However, I believe that can be EASILY achieved without having to stoop down to drinking, well.... crap.
But most importantly, as you indicated....to each their own!

I use to love New Castle back in high school. For some reason it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Haven't had one in about 2 years.
I would like to try some of the Japanese beers. I have honestly never tried any up to this day. Any suggestions on those ???
I never understood the big deal about Pyramid's so called "Hefeweizen". To me, it's nothing even remotely close to a traditional hef, as its more of an American wheat ale than anything. It's one of the oh 5-10 beers that I absolutely refuse to drink. I don't know, but the few times that I tried it i just tasted absolutely nothing in it. Hate to say it, but I'd take a soda over it.
Ever had a Paulaner or Franziskaner hefeweizen? They aren't too difficult to find, and should be available at most Bevmos.

Amber Bock is another one that I use to like, back when I was underage and shouldn't have been drinking. Basically we took what we could get back then and wouldn't complain.
Since I have been able to legally purchase alcoholic beverages the past couple of years, I don't even consider the Amber Bock anymore since there are hundreds of better brews out there. Although, it is by far the best offering from A.B.

Why drink beer when you can drink Jack Daniels? That's my philosophy.
I may be mistaken and if I am I apologize in advance but were you the winner at a poker game in Huntington Beach a few years back? If so, weren't you drinking wine coolers?

Hey Az,
From the rest of your response, it looks like our beer tastes might differ a little (I'm still in the "high school" ages, haha) so I may not be the best one to get suggestions from. Fortunately though, Kirin Ichiban, Asahi, and Sapporo are all readily available in pint size for $2 - 3 each at most supermarkets (I know Ralph's for sure). So, for a $10 investment you can give all 3 a shot... hopefully you enjoy them, at the very least you should be able to drink them... I don't believe any of them are bad enough to poor down the drain
None of them are hoppy, they are all very smooth and easy to drink. Asahi has a certain sweetness and refreshing quality to it... it was my favorite beer for a while, you can definitely tell the difference from most American micro brews. If you only try one, give it a shot. Sapporo and Kirin are of the yellow / micro brew variety, but both taste much better than Corona (though I suppose thats not saying much). Enjoy!

Just picked this up at Trader Joe's today, drinking it now. Very good, very unique! Certainly not a beer for all situations but definitely something I'll likely drink again. I like how it isn't overly sweet (like Lindeman's Framboise)

When I toured Japan last October, it was essentially a drunken binge. Of the three beers listed, I didn't drink as much Ichiban. I didn't form an opinion which one was best, but beeru is beeru.
