Birdman's thread on smoking has me seriously craving some good BBQ. I was watching Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives on Food Network the other night and they had what looked to be a pretty cool looking BBQ restaurant in Venice with some seriously tasty looking BBQ including Brisket, pulled pork, etc...
If not, where do you go for BBQ in the Greater LA area? I'm looking for some authentic BBQ such as Brisket that's been smoked for hours upon hours and some gold old Pulled Pork etc...
Thanks!

Yes, I went after that show too. It's quite a small place. Food was OK, I'd say above average for LA. Ribs were very tender. The brisket was weird, though - they serve it "pulled" like the pulled pork, not sliced. I guess I've never had it that way before. The super hot sauce (XXX) was OK, but I've had hotter. I didn't try the pulled pork, but that seemed like what most everyone else had.
Much better (a little pricier) is Outdoor Grill on Washington. City search voters chose it #1 best bbq in LA in 2003. Note: they also voted Hogley Wogleys #2 which I strongly disagree with. Try Outdoor Grill: http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/95899/?
Also try The PIG on La Brea in Hollywood. Big portions of southern style bbq. They dont serve beer so stop by the market around the corner and grab a 40oz to take in with you. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/11398603/?
One of my favorites is Zekes in Montrose and in Hollywood. They have great bbq especially the pulled pork sandwich. Also homemade cobblers that are wonderful. http://zekessmokehouse.com/
I also like Ribs USA in Burbank.

Zeke's looks amazing, just what I'm looking for. I'll have to give it a try, maybe this weekend we'll go for a drive. I'm all the way up in Thousand Oaks.
I think I'm also going to by myself a little birthday present. I think that it's time to get myself a smoker and start experimenting.
Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Zekes has a family platter that gives you your choice of a number of meats and sides for about $50. It's big enough for me, my wife, and our 2 kids. Its a good way to sample the menu.
If you go and get your car washed next door to outdoor grill, be sure to ask for a 10% coupon for the BBQ. Their beans are really good. The only meat that I have had from there is tri-tip. The place is small, but really good. Eat on the patio up stairs.
One other place located in South OC is Bad to the Bone. It is located right by Ortega Hwy and the 5. Never had a bad meal there. Also the owner owns SJC Brewing Co and they sells their beers there.

2nd Favorite - Hustons on Cahuenga between Hollywood and Sunset - more of a lunch counter, but truly a BBQ. They arrive at 4am to fire up the ovens with nut wood. Their "chip" sandwiches are to die for. This is made from only the cuttings from the outer edges of the beef and pork, nice and crunchy and spicy and smoky. Very affordable.
Anyone ever try that place Rosie's on Topanga near Devonshire? I pass it all the time and wonder if it's any good.
Some of my co-workers eat there regularly and like it. I've never tried it myself but keep meaning to.
Today I went and had some awesome BBQ at Green Acres Market on Los Angeles Ave in Simi Valley. $6.00 for a tri-tip sandwich that had an awesome smoky flavor to it. It tasted so good on its own that I didn't even put any sauce on it! I think I'll be back there this week for more!
