Going to Westminster tomorrow with my wife on a Bánh Mě crawl. I've been having a craving for these cheap but incredible delicious sandwiches. Do any of you like these as well? and if so, any favorite places where you get them from? Tomorrow we are definitely going to Lee's, Top Baguette and Banh Mi Che Cali. Anyways, good times!
they're not just any sandwiches, they're vietnamese sandwiches... basically red bbq or cured pork on a baguette (some with pâté) and pickled veggies. good stuff.
i'd go to the last two places you mentioned... lee's is affiliated with commies. but it's your $$$!
i usually go to hole in the wall places and don't know the names to them since my vietnamese is not so good and i can't remember vietnamese names.
have fun with your sammiches!!!

also, sorry i don't know the names of them either. i don't understand vietnamese and it's difficult to remember the names of places. there is a place close to my work in huntington beach.... it's on the southwest corner of goldenwest and westminster.
Bahn Mi rules. I've never had Bahn Mi in Westminster, so I can't help you there. However, I did wander into a Vietnamese bakery (pretty sure it was in Westminster) where they had durian shakes. Had to try it. Managed to finish about half of it. Don't know if I'd be able to handle the real fruit.
Anyway, back to Bahn Mi. For anyone interested, it's basically a really fresh sandwich (bbq pork is probably the most common) with cucumber, shredded carrot, chilies on a fresh French baguette.... so good. Oh.. and almost as good is that they cost under $4. Ridiculously low compared the chain sandwich restaurants.
If anyone in the LA area is interested, you can go to San Gabriel where you'll find quite a few bakeries (Baguette Express, Saigon Sandwich & Bakery, etc) on Valley Boulevard (west of Rosemead Blvd). The one I've gone to a few times (Paris Sandwich, 801 E. Valley Blvd) is on the northeast corner of Valley and San Gabriel. They have about 8 different kinds there.
nuts... mom doesn't know the names either. haha... oh well, i don't feel bad for not knowing my vietnamese then.
damn. kod. that pic is making me hungry.
rob2716's suggestions sound good for the LA area. you're best off getting them in the SGV (rosemead, monterey park, alhambra, san gabriel) than going anywhere else in LA.
I haven't had a good once since my divorce. Damn, I haven't had any decent Asian food since my divorce. I lost all those connections for these sammiches as well as good Bun Bao.
The first time I went to a Vietnamese food store (I think on Magnolia/Westminster) I swear it was like the Old Asian Lady Stock Market! All kinds of hollering and shouting and I got so freaked out I didn't know how to order.
LOVE Bánh Mě. Count me in for a ham or BBQ pork with paté any day, any time. There's a local place that also does a lemon grass chicken or tofu version that's light and good too, and their mini baguettes kick...****ing...ASSS.
