The trapezoid was put in so that goalies would stop slowing down the game right?
I think the delayed off-sides is a great rule and is good enough to keep the flow of the game going. The same thing with the puck over glass delay of game penalty.
Take away the trapezoid and let skilled goaltenders do their thing. Obviously, keep the delay of penalty (puck over glass) penalty in the game if the goalie decides to throw it over when the forecheck pressure is on.
