The Hill's Blog Briefing Room DeLay: 'Unless Obama Proves Me Wrong, He Is a Marxist'
Former House Republican Leader Tom DeLay (Texas) called Barack Obama a "Marxist" on the Mike Gallagher radio show Thursday.
Explaining that Obama clinching the Democratic nomination is a good thing for John McCain, DeLay said Obama's "weakness" is that "nobody knows him."
"And if McCain does not define him as what he is — hey, I have said publicly, and I will again, that
unless he proves me wrong, he is a Marxist," DeLay said.
The radio host agreed with DeLay, who is facing money laundering charges, saying Obama is "desperately trying to cover up what seems to be the kind of old school Marxist radical liberal failed ideology."
"Absolutely," DeLay said. "No doubt about it."
Of all the inane things that are believed by and apparently compelling to wingnuts in this country, this one is the most hilarious. It even beats the 'support Israel to pave the way for Armageddon' stuff that both Bush and McCain have seen fit to give the nod to at different times.
I enjoy the fact that DeLay and this tool Gallagher he was talking to are such careless speakers that they say not only what they intend--that Obama's a "Marxist" (??)--but that they also imply-see bold type above-that McCain is also a "Marxist" unless he defines Obama as a "Marxist."
Will someone explain what this means and why wingnuts think this kind of talk is either believable or politically effective? What world do these people live in? Who else lives there? What does "old school Marxist radical liberal" even mean?
