I wouldn't say they are stupid in the sense they got their message out loud and clear. Had they burned photocopies of the constitution I doubt they'd have gotten much press. The flag is a symbol of freedom, and the burning of the flag is one of the most extreme exercises of that freedom. Personally, I find all the pseudo-patriotic crap much more offensive. Look at the flags you see flying while driving around - most of them are in piss-poor condition and not up to the very code of displaying a flag, and ironically, should be retired by being burned. Walk around a street after a 4th of July parade and you'll find plastic flags littered on the ground. Or how about all the flags people had on their cars after 9/11 - where are those flags now? In trash dumps with rotting food and baby diapers. The worst part is most of those flags, the "symbols" of America were made in China or Taiwan. I'm getting off topic, but I think many people, and Im not directing this at you, who get their panties in a bunch over flag burning are the same who have very little concept of what the flag represents are are likely to have a tattered, yellowed, flag in front of their house.
