The NHL is in a "one-hit-wonder" era | | 1975-1990 (you could go back even farther) was the "dynasty era" with Montreal, the NY Islanders, and Edmonton dominating (Calgary made a special guest appearance in 1989).
1991-2003 was the "two(or 3)-timer era" with Pittsburgh, New Jersey(3), Colorado and Detroit(3) dominating (with Montreal making a residual appearance from its dynasty era, the NY Rangers and Dallas making special guest appearances)
2004-present is the "one-hit-wonder" era with Tampa Bay, Carolina, and Anaheim hitting the last three years. None of those teams is currently in contention to win this year and none of them have really been in any kind of position to repeat.
Agree?
