You are correct. Had Kobe not have his issue in Colorado, there wouldn't be as many Kobe haters as there still is today. Kobe would have won the MVPs easily over Nash and would still easily win it today.

But it's because of that, Kobe has to face an uphill battle big time. Not only with the fans, but with the media as well. The media doesn't know ANYTHING, and I don't see why it's them who gets to vote... but they're definitely fans of the game as well... So if the fans hate Kobe, they'll hate Kobe too.

I probably still sound bitter, but it's because of the Kobe trial that forced the NBA to fix the officiating between the Lakers/Pistons in the 2004 Finals. It was so one-sided and I couldn't remember anything that pissed me off as much as that. Detroit was allowed to play aggressive hack and slash Defense, while the Lakers were constantly called for touch fouls. It happened so much that the Lakers couldn't play Defense even if they wanted to. Thus resulting in what looked like a easy series win by Detroit. And most of the Lakers community knew at that moment... that the NBA did not want a potential rapist (at the time) to be a champion.

But that's all in the past. Back to the topic. If Kobe doesn't win the MVP though this year, will the voters for Chris Paul be able to explain why Kobe didn't get it? What more does he have to do? He was clearly the MVP over Nash and Dirk the past few years. And if this MVP race is considered "as close as ever", then something is clearly not right.
