I see your point but with the 5.1 Format bands can really put out a top notch product that has a lot more options for the listener and fan then the same L/R Channel stereo that hasnt changed since the mid 60s.
To give an idea....
I just got the Porcupine Tree Lightbulb Sun rerelease. It cost 20 bucks or there abouts and came with 3 discs. The First was the new Stereo Remaster Remix. The Second was the 5.1 DVDA that had videos, bonus tracks, as well as the
entire original album mix they included specifically so people could compare the old mix vs the new mix. The 3rd disc was a bonus CD of two more unreleased instrumental tracks.
Now if a not so well known band like PT is willing to do this for their fans on an album that released in the late 90s there really is no reason a band with the Artistic Control over their work like Radiohead couldnt do something similar for their album that is brand spanking new. The Stones and Peter Gabriel have all started releasing some of their back catalogs in these formats so for me its baffling to see a band that really is taylor made for 5.1 elect not to use it.
I think its cool Radiohead gave the album away for free, but I cant help but think how great some RadioHead tracks would be in the DVDA or SACD format.
