Default Sex Offenders

I'm getting pretty pissed off that seemingly every other week, a story is run about people protesting about released sex offenders moving into their area. "Not in my neighborhood!" seems to be the motto of choice.

What gives with this? If you want these people locked up for life, the lobby your politicians to increase sentences for these offenses. You'll get no argument for me.

As it stands, however, after they serve their time, they are released back into society - and they have to live SOMEWHERE. I'm pretty sure there isn't a city on the planet that doesn't have children or women who could be the next victims of crimes from these people.

My question is - what's the solution? Where should these people live? For the actual reformed parolee looking to make a living and benefit society, can they ever accomplish this?

To me, the whole "Not in my neighborhood" is nothing more than a selfish act - as by relocating them, they don't seem to have any concern for the people in the new location, do they?
