The thing with NFL contracts is players NEVER get the full amount. So the guaranteed number is the one to look at. Kelly got overpaid, but he's a player who has shown flashes of talent, he's not worth the money he got, especially coming off ACL surgery but he's not going to get all 50 million that the Raiders signed him to.
Same with Wilson, he's a good safety not a great one. It's a huge position of need for the Raiders, 16 million guaranteed over 6 years isn't terrible and damn near every team is way under the cap. I'm happy that this means Stuart Schwiegert is no longer going to receive any signifigant playing time and hopefully is cut. |
Yea, at least Wilson can tackle. Stu was terrible at it - I don't know how many times he'd miss a tackle to give up a big play. And I suppose that when Kelly's healthy he's solid on the line, although we'll see how effective he is coming off his ACL injury.
It's just that with Kelly and Wilson locked up, along with franchise-tagging Asomugha, we don't have a lot of room to address other needs, like wide receiver and o-line.
