Default Phantom goal beats Monarchs (Union Leader)

A Phantom goal proved the difference in Philadelphia's 3-2 victory over the Monarchs before 8,771 last night in Verizon Wireless Arena.

Indeed phantom.

In fact both second-period goals by Phildelphia's Jared Ross were questionable as one came after a series of consultations by referee Kyle Rehman as to whether or not the goal had scored before the net was pushed off. The second, and eventual game winner, Ross scored with what appeared a broken stick.

The Monarchs (23-22-4-2, 52 pts.) lost their second straight and lost ground in their battle with Springfield for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division. Fourth-place Springfield was a 3-1 winner last night over Lowell. Fifth-place Manchester trails by three points for that coveted fourth spot.
