Ok,

Let's fast forward to April 5th. The Kings have had a rancid season, but they still haven't clinched last place. They are currently 1 point behind Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Toronto and are playing the Ducks.

Meanwhile, the Ducks have not done that well since Selanne has come back, but they have managed to hang on to the possibility of making the playoffs. They are currently 3 points behind Phoenix (who they play on April 6th). Phoenix currently holds the 8th and final playoff spot.

If the Kings lose, they wrap up last place and have the best chance to pick Stamkos with their first overall pick. If the Kings win, they eliminate the Ducks from playoff contention, but they also leapfrog over Tampa Bay and Toronto and will finish no worse than 28th.
