they've dealt Smid and waived Kondratiev (who they got for Petr Sykora), and their best (and only legitimate) defensive prospect is Mark Mitera, who is essentially their version of Richard Petiot.
1 of their 7 defenseman has a contract expiring after this season and the another 5 have contracts expiring after next season, so you're potentially looking at a defensive core consisting of: Pronger, (the in my opinion overrated) Beauchemin, Huskins, and DiPenta.
Mikkelson and Festerling are signed through i believe, and Salcido will be an RFA after next season... so you have HIS qualifying offer to be considered as well. which should happen considering Brian made the All-Star team this season.
