Despite not allowing a shot in the third period, the Monarchs could not overcome their early mistakes as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins escaped with a 3-2 victory last night before 8,715 in Verizon Wireless Arena.
The loss ended a two-game win streak for the Monarchs (21-19-4-2, 48 points), who slipped back to fifth in the Atlantic Division, trailing Springfield by only one point for the fourth and final playoff spot.
