My thoughts on Blake being traded | | Looking at who may be available at the trading deadline, it looks to me that Blake should bring back a lot of talent, because there will be a great demand for him. If Toronto stays anywhere close to that 8th place spot in the east, they won't trade Sundin and if Atlanta wants to resign Hossa, those are the only guys that may be available that could truly make a huge difference on a playoff team. Plus Blake being a defenceman makes him even more valuable. I think that whichever of Detriot or Anaheim gets Blake probably becomes the favorite to win the Cup. Hopefully there is a bit of a bidding war between the two with possibly the Rangers getting involved also. The Rangers may think that adding Blake could win them the east, since the east is so wide open.
Now if I am DL, it would take a heck of a lot to get Blake from me and help the Ducks win back to back Cups, making the Kings look terrible again in the local markets and with the fans, including all the bad press that goes along with it. It would be something like Bobby Ryan, the Edm 1st pick and maybe more to get Blake. Adding Blake to a defense of Neidermeyer, Pronger, Schneider, Beauchemin and O‘Donnell might make them unstopable. Plus it keeps Blake from going to the Wings and this will probably be Neidermeyers last year, so they have to take advantage of it while they can.
As far as the Wings go, they don't want the Ducks getting Blake and do they really want Lilja on the ice getting many playoff minutes so he can turn the puck over to Selanne again. Also, the Wings only have one Hall of Fame defenseman while the Ducks have two. The Red Wings really need Blake come playoff time. I would ask for Jimmy Howard, Jakub Kindl and a 1st.
Although the Rangers is where I think he may end up, going with Nagy for Staal, Sanguinetti and a 1st.
Don't be suprised if the Ducks and Wings get into a bidding war over him. Look how close it was between them last year, one player would have made a difference. anyway thats how I see it right now. |
