A friend of mine has an older PSP and runs an emulator on it. He also put Linux on his PS3 and loves using both. He geeks out on that stuff.

If you buy a new PSP with the latest firmware, I'm not sure if you'll be able to update it with the emulator stuff like you want to. I enjoy my PSP, but I just use it how Sony intended for it to be used - for games on the UMDs.
